EU Summit: Austria and “Economical Four”

Austria and the other “Frugal Four” insist on sound budget policies in Europe. If you only take this seriously in your own country.

Austria’s politicians and Sebastian Kurz love government spending, and they traditionally do not get along with the existing government revenue.

Austria’s Chancellor, Sebastian Kurz, was pleased to appear at the EU summit as part of the “Economical Four”. He sees himself as a driving force in the group of those EU countries that insist on a solid budget policy and that do not want a debt union in Europe. It also briefly set itself apart from Germany, which had traditionally played this role. He probably wants to position himself as a conservative hope for the future in Europe.
