It seems like a small sensation: Simon Ehammer, just 20 years old, won 8029 points in his second decathlon with the active. Only five Swiss made it before him. Ehammer shone in Amriswil on both days, he again achieved the outstanding performance in the long jump. At 8.11 m, it exceeded the 8-meter mark for the third time within a month. Karl Wyler, one of his coaches, rated the jump as the best that Ehammer ever showed. With his record of 8.15 m he achieved the second best distance of a Swiss ever. There he had benefited from a 1.6 meter tailwind. There was no wind in Amriswil.
Ehammer is the bronze winner of the Junior World Cup 2018 and U-20 European champion of last year, in September he scored 7735 points in his first competition with the elite. He has now surpassed this in an impressive way by almost 300.
After his coup, in which he performed best in the rod (4.90 m) and in the discus (35.23 m), he said: «It is pure joy and I can improve even more. I will have time to analyze the deficits in the next few days. » Ehammer’s talent lies in his genes: he is as quick as the best, which benefits him in the sprint and in the jumps.
