15,000 volt line came too close: two young people killed by electric shock in Itzehoe train station – Panorama – Society

Two young people were electrocuted at the Itzehoe train station in Schleswig-Holstein after they climbed onto a parked tank car on Saturday evening. The two young people came too close to the 15,000-volt overhead line and died in a flashover, as the federal police announced on Sunday. They belonged to a group of four teenagers aged 16 to 18 years.

The other two young people suffered a burn on their hand and a shock. The rescue workers moved to the scene of the accident with a large contingent. Further investigations by the criminal police should provide information about the exact course of the tragic accident. The identity of the dead and the injured was initially unclear.

The station was closed for about an hour and a half on Saturday evening. According to Deutsche Bahn, there were significant delays.

The Federal Police repeatedly point out that electric shocks can also occur if you do not touch the overhead line. If you come closer than 1.50 meters to the line with 15,000 volts, the current can jump to the body. (AFP, dpa)
