The Swiss ski racer Marc Gisin is finally turning his back on top-class sport.

The now 32-year-old speed specialist did not find his way back to his previous performance after a serious fall in December 2018 at the World Cup downhill run in Val Gardena, where he suffered a traumatic brain injury, several broken bones and a squeezed lung. His body did not fully recover from the severe injuries. He achieved his best World Cup placements in Kitzbühel. On the Steif he landed in 5th place twice (2016 and 2018).

Gisin wrote on social media: “It is time for me to quit. I’ve tried everything to come back after my injury in Val Gardena, but my body can’t take it anymore. He doesn’t allow me to ski the way I want to and how it would be required at the highest level. I would like to thank everyone who has accompanied and cheered me on over the past 10 years. Especially with my family and all the doctors and physiotherapists. “By the way, Gisin had already suffered injuries before the fall in Val Gardena, such as a cruciate ligament tear in Crans Montana in 2012 and a traumatic brain injury with cerebral hemorrhage after a fall in Kitzbühel in January 2015.
