The French Formula 1 driver Romain Grosjean survived his horror crash at the Bahrain Grand Prix without any breaks. The Haas racing team announced this on Sunday evening. The 34-year-old will “spend the night in the hospital to treat the burns on the back of his hands” that he suffered in his accident on the first lap.
A little later, Grosjean spoke up on Instagram in a video message: “I just want to tell you that I’m okay. Thanks for all the messages. A few years ago I wasn’t in favor of the Halo (cockpit protection in Formula 1; d . Red.), But I think he’s the best thing that has happened to Formula 1. Without him, I couldn’t speak to you now. So thank you. ”
Grosjean, who had started from position 19, hit a crash barrier with the AlphaTauri of Russian Daniil Kwjat at around 250 km / h. The car was torn in two and immediately caught fire. Grosjean, who was exposed to the heat for 27 seconds, was able to free himself from the wreck.
