tuttgart (dpa / lsw) – The state of Baden-Württemberg is providing a further 400,000 euros in emergency aid for the homeless. The money will be used to support municipalities, urban and rural districts in order to provide more rooms for emergency overnight stays, said Minister of Social Affairs Manne Lucha (Greens) on Sunday. The corona crisis hits people without a permanent residence hard, especially in the cold season. In emergency shelters, the rooms usually have to be shared with several people. The distance and hygiene rules could not always be adhered to.
“The risk of infection with the corona virus is particularly high for people who live on the streets,” said Lucha. “With our emergency aid program for the homeless, launched for the second time during the corona pandemic, we want to give these people a safe place to retreat and protect themselves in winter.”
