Third home bankruptcy in a row for Arsenal +++ Napoli honors Maradona and dismantles Rome
Leverkusen – Hertha BSC 0:0
Bayer Leverkusen and Hertha Berlin part ways in the uneventful first Sunday game of the Bundesliga goalless.
Four days before the group game in the Europa League at Nice, Leverkusen was handicapped. Overall, coach Peter Bosz was missing nine potential starting candidates. Because Lucas Alario, Karim Bellarabi and Nadiem Amiri were canceled at short notice, only four field players were left on Leverkusen’s bench.
With the draw after five wins, Leverkusen missed the leap to second place. However, they were one point ahead of Borussia Dortmund, which suffered its third defeat against Cologne on Saturday. The Berliners, who started the season with great ambitions, are still stuck in the lower third of the table.
Mainz – Hoffenheim 1: 1
The second Bundesliga game on Sunday also ended without a winner. Mainz, which clinched its first win of the season in Freiburg last week, was denied a second full success, among other things due to a shot by Jean-Philippe Mateta a quarter of an hour before the end.
Until Dennis Geiger was sent off after 80 minutes, Hoffenheim was mostly oppressive in the second half. From a Swiss point of view, it was encouraging that Edimilson Fernandes was part of the Mainz starting line-up for the second time in a row after problems at the start of the season.
Mainz – Hoffenheim 1: 1 (1: 0)
Tore: 33. Quaison 1: 0. 62. Build 1: 1.
Remarks: Mainz with Edimilson Fernandes (up to 79th). 80. Red card against Geiger (Hoffenheim / Foul).
Southampton – Manchester United 2:3
Manchester United beat the surprising Southampton 3-2 thanks to an outstanding second half in the Premier League. Edinson Cavani was the match winner with two goals and an assist.
The 33-year-old Uruguayan, who switched to the English record champions this season, has only played sparsely so far. In Southampton, the veteran showed his worth after being substituted for the break when the score was 2-0.
He provided the assist for Bruno Fernandes’ next goal and scored the other goals with his head himself – the winning 3-2 in the 92nd minute. It sealed Southampton’s first defeat in the last seven games with five wins and two draws.

Chelsea – Tottenham 0: 0
In the top game between Chelsea and Tottenham there were no goals and therefore no winner. In the 1000th game in the era of owner Roman Abramowitsch, Chelsea struggled to create scoring opportunities. The best defused Tottenham goalie Hugo Lloris in the final phase.
The coaching duel between Frank Lampard and José Mourinho – two of the most formative personalities under Abramovich – resulted in a stalemate. Mourinho’s Tottenham stay two points from Lampard’s Chelsea at the top of the table.
Arsenal – Wolverhampton 1:2
Arsenal are eight points behind the best teams in the Premier League after their third consecutive home defeat. In the 1: 2 against Wolverhampton, the Portuguese Daniel Podence made the decisive goal before the break.
The game had started with a moment of shock after a quarter of an hour: After a violent clash with David Luiz, the Mexican Raul Jimenez had to be treated on the field for ten minutes and then transferred to the hospital.

Tore: 27. Neto 0: 1. 30. Gabriel 1: 1. 42. Podence 1: 2.

Milan – Fiorentina 2: 0
Milan are successful even without the injured top scorer Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The Serie A leader came in the 9th round to a 2-0 home win against Fiorentina and thus extended his lead over the first rival to five points.
Because Sassuolo lost to Inter Milan in Saturday’s duel, only Juventus Turin and AC Milan are unbeaten in the current championship. But the Milanese have an even more impressive series going. Together with Atlético Madrid, they are the only team from the top 5 leagues that have been unbeaten since the resumption after the Corona lockdown in March. Against Fiorentina, Milan scored goals in the first half hour through Alessio Romagnoli and Franck Kessie, who used a penalty and missed a second before the break.
Ibrahimovic, who has already scored ten times this season, should be back at Sampdoria Genoa next weekend. Then Milan can improve a club record from the 1970s with a 30th match with at least one goal.
Milan – Fiorentina 2: 0 (2: 0)
Tore: 17. Romagnoli 1: 0. 28. Kessie 2: 0. –

Naples – Rom 4: 0
Napoli honored former playmaker Diego Maradona with dignity on Sunday evening. Before and during the Serie A game against AS Roma, the Argentine was remembered. The Neapolitans won the game 4-0.
Before the game, Captain Lorenzo Insigne placed a memorial wreath in the stadium in front of Curva Nord, where the hot-blooded fans usually take their seats. Later, all the players wore a special jersey reminiscent of that of the Argentine national team and held a minute of mourning. In the 10th minute, the game was interrupted to commemorate the late Maradona with applause, who had led the club to its greatest successes.
Thanks to goals from Insigne, Fabian Ruiz, Dries Mertens and Matteo Politano, Napoli celebrated a clear victory against the Romans, who will receive the Young Boys in the Europa League next Thursday. It was the first defeat for AS Roma since mid-September.

Barcelona – Osasuna 4: 0
Antoine Griezmann is getting along better and better after difficult weeks at FC Barcelona. In the 4-0 home win against Osasuna, the French scored the third goal in their last four games.
He scored just before the break with a massive volley from the edge of the penalty area to make it 2-0. He prepared Coutinho’s third goal with a ball conquest and the decisive pass.
The 4-0 goal was achieved by superstar Lionel Messi, who dedicated his goal to his late idol Diego Armando Maradona. Messi took off his shirt to reveal an older Barça shirt with the number 10 underneath – one like the one Maradona wore during his time in Barcelona from 1982 to 1984.
Barcelona are ten points behind the top of the table, which still have San Sebastian (1-1 against Villarreal).

Nice – Dijon 1: 3
In Nice, the pressure on coach Patrick Vieira is growing. The former world and European champion conceded a 3-1 home defeat with the southern French against Dijon, the last of the Ligue 1 without a win.
For OGC Nice, which like Lausanne-Sport belongs to the British chemical company INEOS, it was – including the Europa League – the fourth consecutive defeat. In the European Cup, the team with the two Swiss Jordan Lotomba and Dan Ndoye are virtually eliminated, in the championship they are classified in the second half of the table despite their great ambitions.
The Swiss U21 national goalie Anthony Racioppi contributed one or two parades to Dijon’s first win in the second half. Both Swiss were used at Nice. Lotomba took out the penalty that led to the 1: 3.
