Castle facade: The donation has been made
A total of 105 million euros were donated for the construction of the baroque exterior facade.
The facade of the Berlin City Palace, largely reconstructed based on a historical model, has been part of the heavily controversial part of the new Humboldt Forum since the first planning. The realization was tied to sufficient donations. Now the target has been reached. “The donation promise has been kept,” announced the Humboldt Forum Foundation on Saturday in Berlin.
For the construction of the baroque exterior facade of the project, which has now cost 677 million euros, 105 million euros have been donated. This was “mainly and largely thanks to the tireless efforts of Wilhelm von Boddien, the manager of the Friends of the Berlin Palace”, it said. Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier expressed his thanks for “generous gifts”.
After several opening stages, the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation and two of its museums, the State of Berlin and the Humboldt University, will use the huge culture and exhibition center in the heart of Berlin from the end of 2021.
