Stuttgart – Christmas on a large or small scale? The question is a little more difficult to answer in this Corona year than usual. But although Christmas will be different this time than usual, as much normality as possible should be created. Chancellor Angela Merkel and the prime ministers are currently discussing which restrictions or easing will apply for Christmas. They had agreed the day before to allow exceptions to the contact restrictions for Christmas and New Year’s Eve. According to this draft resolution, up to ten people from different households should be possible. Children up to 14 years of age would be exempt from this rule.
Extended Christmas holidays should minimize contacts
Under these relaxed contact regulations, citizens are recommended to go into self-quarantine for several days before the Christmas holidays. This is to keep the risk of infection as low as possible during the holidays. In support of this appeal, the Christmas holidays are to be extended nationwide by two days, as Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann (Greens) announced on Tuesday at the government press conference in Stuttgart. The federal and state governments will also discuss the length of the Christmas holidays this Wednesday.
But what do the people of Stuttgart think about the loosening of contacts at Christmas and extended holidays? We asked passers-by in the city center.
