The number of corona cases remains high: The RKI reports 22.268 new infections and with 389 also many deaths. For Chancellor Braun, there is only a chance of lower numbers if the population goes along with ite.

In Germany, the health authorities reported 22,268 new corona infections to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) within 24 hours. That is around 3600 cases more than on Wednesday (18,633), as RKI data shows. A week ago on Thursday, 22,609 cases had been reported. On Friday, a maximum of 23,648 reported cases was reached.

Number of dead again at almost 400

The RKI has counted a total of 983,588 detected infections in Germany since the beginning of the pandemic. The number of deaths related to the virus rose 389 to a total of 15,160 as of Thursday. A new high was reached on Wednesday with 410 deaths. The RKI estimates that around 676,100 people have now recovered.

According to the RKI situation report from the evening, the so-called seven-day R was 0.87 (previous day: 0.90). This means that 100 infected people infect a further 87 people. The value represents the occurrence of the infection eight to 16 days ago. If the value is below one for a longer period of time, the infection process subsides.

Braun: Citizens have to go along

After the new federal and state resolutions to extend the partial lockdown, Chancellor Helge Braun emphasized that the behavior of the citizens is important in the fight against the corona pandemic. “We can only guarantee that we will now certainly experience a decline in numbers if people really pull everyone along,” said the CDU politician ARD morning magazine. The measures are such “that it is very important to all of us that we further reduce contacts.”

Braun also defends the regional exemptions that have been decided with possible relaxation in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Schleswig-Holstein, because there the seven-day incidence is already falling below 50 infections per 100,000 inhabitants.

In addition to stricter contact restrictions, the federal and state governments also agreed on a hotspot value: From a number of 200 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within a week, the corona rules are to be tightened again.
