These are the ten largest corona hotspots in Germany

Numerous regions in Germany are considered to be corona risk areas due to the high number of infections. Where exactly are the biggest hotspots?

Hildburghausen: Protest im Corona Hotspot

In Hildburghausen, Thuringia, over 400 people took to the streets against the corona measures on Wednesday evening. With a seven-day value of over 500, the small town is the most severely affected region in Germany.

  • In Germany, 384 cities, districts and districts are currently considered to be corona risk areas
  • Regions in Thuringia, Bavaria, Rhineland-Palatinate and Saxony are represented among the ten largest hotspots in Germany
  • The Hildburghausen district in Thuringia is by far Germany’s largest hotspot
  • A region is considered a risk area if there have been more than 50 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in the past seven days – in Hildburghausen there are more than 602 cases
  • The federal and state governments have adopted new measures to contain the pandemic
  • We show the ten currently most affected hotspots within Germany

No restaurant visits, no cultural events, no larger gatherings: the nationwide
Partial lockdown
will continue until at least December 20th. Public life is to be massively shut down in order to slow down the spread of the coronavirus – because so far the number of infections has remained at a high level.

Cities and counties

The district is particularly badly affected
Hildburghausen
in Thuringia – the first region in Germany whose 7-day incidence was greater than 500. Particularly incomprehensible for many people in the region: Despite the high number of infections, hundreds of people in Hildburghausen took to the streets to demonstrate this week – they sang, among other things, “Oh, how is that beautiful”.

Corona: when is a region a risk area?

A first guideline for the classification as a risk area offers the
Number of new infections
.

  • If it exceeds the value of
    50 cases per 100,000 population
In the past seven days, the situation will be assessed by the individual federal states. This “new disease rate” is also known as the incidence.

  • The state governments decide independently which areas in other federal states they declare to be risk areas.
  • There is no nationwide uniform list as there is for international risk areas. The state of Bavaria has announced its own list, which should not only be based on the incidence value.

7-day incidence number: This is why there are differences between RKI and health authorities

The
Seven-day incidence number
of the RKI for the respective districts is not always up to date, as several cases in Germany show. There were recently differences in the number of cases that the cities of Dortmund, Duisburg and the Wesel district themselves reported compared to those of the RKI.

This is due to the German for two reasons
Infectious disease reporting system
. This provides that the laboratories first report their confirmed corona cases to the local health department. These in turn transmit the figures to the state health authorities, which then forward them to the RKI.

This system is not yet fully digitized. Due to the resulting effort in the
Data acquisition
and transmission, the numbers do not always arrive at the RKI on a daily basis. In addition, there are sometimes transmission errors, as in Wesel, Duisburg or previously in Landshut in Bavaria. Then the RKI has no data at all, which in turn falsifies the calculation of the incidence figure, at least temporarily.
