DISTRICT OF MATTERSBURG. The schools in the Mattersburg district welcome the announced wave of tests – they hope that the current situation will improve soon. “If you can filter out people who have become infected with Covid-19 at an early stage and so others can be protected, I find the tests absolutely welcome”, says Silke Teuschl, headmistress of the Forchtenstein elementary school.
In Forchtenstein there is agreement that all educators will submit to the voluntary tests. “The FFP2 masks for the teachers and the hygiene measures will of course continue to be used despite the testing,” said the headmistress, who is impressed by the patience and consistency that the students show in times of the corona pandemic.
Waiting for information
All schools have one thing in common: they are waiting for information on the tests. “So far we only know that the tests are to take place on December 5th and 6th. We are still waiting for information on where and how this should happen and we hope for a good registration system so that it goes quickly and you don’t have to queue up with many people forever “says Teuschl hopefully.
The exact information on the process of the mass test is also expected at the New Middle School Schattendorf. “The majority of our educators have themselves tested in this campaign to protect our children. We are taking part because we not only want to protect ourselves but also want to show that schools are not the place where the infection happens,” explains headmistress Petra Leitgeb and continues “Parents and children should be able to be sure that their educators are not infected. Unfortunately, the one-time test is only a selective snapshot.”
Regular testing is desirable
At the Mattersburg elementary school, the announced mass testing of teaching staff is also positive. “We would have liked such an action in September and are looking forward to being tested,” assures the headmistress, Rafaela Strauss. It is clear to them that it would be desirable to repeat the tests regularly to ensure everyone’s safety. “In the end, the test is just a snapshot. A few hours or days later you can unknowingly have been infected with Corona. Regular testing would make sense here,” she points out. “You have to be very careful during this time and can only hope for the people’s sense of responsibility”, concluded the headmistress.
December 7th and 8th Antigen test for police
The antigen tests of the 40,000 police officers in Austria are to follow on December 7th and 8th. A series of tests for the entire population is planned shortly before Christmas, with participation in all tests being on a voluntary basis.
