Daniil Kwjat on opponent Grosjean: “What is he doing?”

(Motorsport-Total.com) – “That was a scary moment,” says Daniil Kwjat after the 2020 Bahrain Grand Prix in Sachir. And with that he of course alludes to the defining scene of this Formula 1 race: the serious accident of Haas driver Romain Grosjean right on the starting lap, in which the car went up in flames and Grosjean was injured.

Kvjat was even directly involved in the development of this incident: shortly beforehand, Grosjean had steered from left to right across the route and collided with the AlphaTauri from Kvjat, therefore got off the road and hit it shortly afterwards.

In the first moment after the touch he only had one thought, admits Kwjat: “At first I was very angry because he moved over there. I wondered what he was doing.”

But then he saw the inferno in the rearview mirror. “My thoughts turned immediately,” says Kvjat. “I was just hoping he would be fine.”

“What I had to see, I didn’t like it at all. I’m very happy that he’s okay. That reminds us that what we’re doing here is dangerous.”

After the restart of the race, Kwjat was involved in the second major incident of the Bahrain Grand Prix, namely in the rollover of Racing Point driver Lance Stroll. Kvjat has already commented on this situation elsewhere.

Kwjat finished the race in eleventh place just outside the points, just 1.080 seconds behind Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc. Pierre Gasly in the other AlphaTauri took P6. (Call up the complete race result here!)
