kaufhaus-oesterreich.at offers regional digital window shopping – common goal of the BMDW and WKÖ: to strengthen online trade in Austria

Vienna (OTS) Something completely new will start in Austria on November 30th, 2020: At kaufhaus-oesterreich.at, red-white-red online retailers will receive a new meta-platform that was jointly created by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Austrian Chamber of Commerce. The aim is to strengthen domestic online retail and combine regionality with the digital. At the start of the new platform, Economics and Digital Minister Margarete Schramböck and WKÖ President Harald Mahrer underlined that the corona crisis at the latest had shown how important an online presence is to reach additional consumers, but also to help in a pandemic -Times to continue doing business. At the start of Kaufhaus Österreich, 1,000 dealers and 9 marketplaces are already listed.

“Buying regionally, it can also be done digitally – that is the motto of ‘Kaufhaus Österreich’. The Corona crisis was a digital wake-up call, especially for our small and medium-sized companies. Within a very short space of time, many have been turning to e-commerce, building new online shops or improving existing ones. With Kaufhaus Österreich, we are now for the first time offering our domestic retailers a platform to present themselves and their online shops and give consumers an opportunity to support our domestic companies. That secures important jobs in our country ”, said Economics and Digital Minister Margarete Schramböck.

“’Buy regionally, that can also be done digitally, is the motto so that purchasing power stays in the country even when shopping online. In this way, we support Austrian companies and their employees – and secure the business location in the long term. Equally important is the effect on our IT consultants and the creative industry as supporting service providers. At the same time, the Department Store Austria can provide an important innovation impulse, ”says WKÖ President Harald Mahrer.

At the same time, WKÖ President Harald Mahrer and Minister Margarete Schramböck signed the e-commerce charter. The BMDW and WKÖ have set down the goals of Kaufhaus Österreich in a charter. In it, the partners and supporters of Kaufhaus Österreich commit themselves to: Expansion of e-commerce in Austria, targeted mobilization of companies for e-commerce, support and advice for companies around e-commerce, improvement of the framework conditions for e-commerce in Austria.

Department store Austria can do that

In order to be present at Kaufhaus Österreich, all that is required is approval by ticking the box in the company A to Z. After that, the dealers can enter their offers at kaufhaus-oesterreich.at so that consumers in their region find the offers that are right for them Find. Customers are offered a digital shopping spree through local online shops that can be selected depending on the region. Kaufhaus Österreich is a virtual display in which Austrian retailers can present themselves to a large audience free of charge – just right for the Christmas business, but of course also afterwards.

According to a recent survey by Digitalberatung GmbH, a quarter of the companies surveyed sell their products and services online. This is primarily done via their own online shop (58 percent). 23 percent are present on an online marketplace. 19 percent use other online channels such as social media or webinars. However, a good half (54 percent) of the companies surveyed do not yet offer their product range online. The main reason for this is that the products and services are not considered suitable for digital distribution. Further hurdles are a lack of preoccupation with the topic of e-commerce as well as high personnel and financial expenditure.

But what does regional purchasing bring? If one in ten people in Austria (around 890,000 people) buys, for example, Christmas floral decorations for EUR 30, such as a door wreath and a winter jacket for EUR 70 from local retailers, these purchases generate 477 jobs and EUR 76 million in sales in Austria (excluding VAT).
