“Gault & Millau”: Host of the year comes from Berlin

Berlin has some top restaurants that “Gault & Millau” also like. This year the hostess of the year comes from Kreuzberg.

Munich / Berlin. Ilona Scholl from the Kreuzberg restaurant “Tulus Lotrek” has been named host of the year 2021 by “Gault & Millau”. She is a prime example of a hostess, judged the restaurant guide on Thursday. “While her partner Max is realizing his vision of a fearless kitchen, she makes sure that her guests feel cared for and welcome like hardly anywhere else in the designer furniture-free living room in an old building in Berlin.” The restaurant guide also paid tribute to the Corona campaign “Cooking for Heroes” started by Scholl, during which food was served to doctors and nursing staff.

The wine expert Nancy Grossmann from the Berlin restaurant “Rutz” received the title “Sommelière of the year 2021”. The “Gault & Millau” writes: “Without vain self-portrayal, she succeeds in accompanying the complex plates of (chef) Marco Müller in a congenial way.”

The title “Chef of the Year” goes to Rhineland-Palatinate this year: The winner is Thomas Schanz from the “Schanz” restaurant in Piesport on the Moselle. Among the top restaurants in Berlin, “Tim Raue” comes first with 19.5 out of 20 points, followed by “Facil” (19) and “Lorenz Adlon Dining Room” (19).

Berlin has eleven restaurants with top ratings (19.5-17) in the “Gault & Millau”, Brandenburg has none in this category. The “Wilde Klosterküche” restaurant in Neuzelle (Oder-Spree) is mentioned in the “New Admissions” section.

You cannot test the restaurants at the moment. The restaurants are currently closed nationwide due to the Corona requirements. The “Gault & Millau” is the most important gourmet guide in Germany alongside the “Guide Michelin”. This year a lot is different: Both the publisher and the editor-in-chief have changed, and something has also changed in the restaurants we tested. While more than 1000 restaurants in Germany were tested in the past, there are now only 500, as the Burda-Verlag announced. 500 other establishments are to be recommended, but not given points.
