The LED lights on the Christmas tree on Pariser Platz have been sparkling since Sunday. Traditionally, a volunteer Berlin hero was allowed to switch on the lighting.
Itay Novik (44) from the “Shalom Rollberg” project won this year’s competition from BZ and lekker Energie. The Israeli has been teaching volunteer Muslim students in Neukölln for five years.
At 4.15 p.m. the cook let the tree shine. This year in front of a small backdrop, the traditional Advent celebration had to be canceled due to the corona pandemic. As a symbolic payment, however, as every year, lekker made a donation of 5000 euros to the project.
“We are pleased that we can make this possible this year and thus support the voluntary work in Berlin,” said lekker managing director Michael Veit.
