The death of his national hero Diego Maradona does not let Argentina go. Now investigators are focusing on his medical examiner. It should be clarified whether he had any influence on the demise of the ex-footballer.
Investigators in Argentina have formally accused the personal physician of the dead football legend Diego Maradona, Leopoldo Luque, of negligent homicide, according to media reports. His practice in the capital Buenos Aires and the house in a suburb were searched on Sunday morning (local time), as the Argentine media unanimously reported, citing sources in the judiciary.
It is being investigated whether there have been any irregularities in the treatment of Maradona in his home in a guarded residential area north of Buenos Aires in the last two weeks of his life.
The 1986 world champion was supposed to recover there after the neurosurgeon Luque and other doctors had operated on him on a blood clot in the brain.
Luque confirmed the searches to journalists on Sunday. He is cooperating with the public prosecutor, who have confiscated medical records on Maradona and electronic devices. With tears he said he had nothing to blame. “I’m proud of everything I’ve done for Diego.” He was like a father to him.
