Rumors of the ominous press conference have been circulating on social media for days. Initially, no great importance was attached to the date. Perez’s management has been inviting South American journalists to online media meetings at irregular intervals since May. The informal email announcement of the current date was therefore not classified as unusual.
But after the Bahrain Grand Prix, one domino after another suddenly seems to be falling. First Callum Ilott announced on Twitter that he will not drive Formula 1 in 2021. The way seems to be free for Mick Schumacher, who has been a Haas candidate for weeks. In addition to Nikita Masepin, as is rumored in well-informed circles.
And Perez’s online media panel turned into a YouTube live stream on Monday morning. What Perez will announce at 6:30 p.m. German time is unclear, however. A few days ago he confirmed that there was only one team left to compete in Formula 1 races in 2021 and that he might consider taking a break.

This was interpreted by insiders in such a way that he could only find work with Red Bull. Helmut Marko is “unknown” about a big Perez announcement, he waves in an interview with ‘Sky’: “We have already said it many times: We’ll wait for the end of the season and then we’ll make a decision.”
As long as Perez has not officially announced what his future looks like, speculation will remain in the subjunctive. But as of Monday afternoon, there are many signs that he will at least have to pause his Formula 1 career.
