Berlin (dpa / bb) – Health Senator Dilek Kalayci sees a “glimmer of hope” in the development of new corona infections in Berlin, but also challenges.
Most recently, there was stagnation in the cases recorded weekly, said the SPD politician on Monday in the health committee of the House of Representatives. The dynamics are subdued. However, the new infections – more than 7600 per week – are still far too high. This makes it difficult to break the chains of infection.
In order to get back into a manageable situation, the numbers would have to drop significantly: As a red line of new infections per week and per 100,000 inhabitants, Berlin has set a mark of 30, which corresponds to around 1,130 cases per week, according to Kalayci.
About the development in the districts, the senator said that Spandau now has a very high number of cases. “The higher the density, the closer the living conditions, the higher the incidence,” said the Senator. There is an investigation by her authority on the connection between the dynamics of infection and the population density, the results of which will be presented shortly. Initially, inner-city districts such as Mitte, Neukölln and Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg were particularly affected.
