2020 with a lot of bad luck for Kuka Augsburg

So far, 2020 has been dominated by bad news for the workforce at Kuka in Augsburg. Only last week, the management announced a new round of austerity, which should again fall victim to up to 270 jobs. Production lines for electric VW Bulli

Now, however, the Augsburg-based company has an order in its pocket that is causing a stir in the industry. Kuka is to design, develop and build complete production lines for Volkswagen. Specifically, it is about fully automated systems for the body shop of the future “ID. Buzz”. Behind it is the electric successor to the classic Bulli minibus.

Lighthouse project for Kuka

Although the partners did not disclose how much money the order brought into the Kuka till, the dimensions are remarkable. The systems should enable production on 14,000 square meters, they should largely independently weld and glue and bring components to the production line. For Kuka, this is a lighthouse project that aims to show that you can design and build complete systems for the production of e-vehicles.
