Halima Aden that’s enough! The Muslim model came to the United States as a Somali refugee at the age of six, where she was finally discovered at a beauty pageant at the age of 18. She then made it onto the covers of the most important fashion magazines and strolled down the international catwalks for countless designers. The special thing about Halima: She wore a hijab for religious reasons. But now she is giving up her modeling career!
On Instagram published Halima an extremely extensive story that explains why she no longer wants to work in the industry: She felt pressured by this to deny her faith and lost herself in the process. She constantly had to make compromises – her hijab was often not presented as she had wished. The main reason for this was that there were too few Muslim stylists who knew what the hijab stood for. “The truth is, I felt very uncomfortable. It’s just not me”, revealed the 23-year-old. “I wish I had never stopped bringing my black hijab to the set,” says the beauty.
Halima I often got involved in certain styles that were actually incompatible with her beliefs – because she didn’t dare to say no: “I knew it couldn’t be done that way. But I was too scared to speak up.”she confessed.
