Aldi Süd will sell the Akoya E42002 desktop PC for 400 euros and the cheap Akoya E11202 notebook for 200 euros in its own branches from December 10, 2020. Both systems are intended for office work; the notebook with shockproof and waterproof housing primarily for students without high performance requirements.
Intel’s quad-core processor Core i3-10100 is in the Akoya E42002 desktop PC, which processes eight threads with Hyper-Threading and accelerates to 4.3 GHz. There is also 8 GB of DDR4-2666 RAM in the form of a single UDIMM – users can retrofit a second bolt if desired. Windows 10 Home is pre-installed on a 512 GB PCI Express SSD.
The 250 watt power supply comes from FSP, as is usual with the cheap Aldi PCs. The integrated Intel GPU outputs the image as standard, but a graphics card can be retrofitted as long as it consumes a maximum of 75 watts and does not require a PCI Express power connection. Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 1650 is the fastest model.
If you buy similar components individually, you get around 300 to 350 euros excluding the operating system. Advantage Aldi: Interested parties can buy the PC fully assembled in the branch.
Aldi Nord has already announced the Akoya E11202 together with the manufacturer Medion. The sister chain Aldi Süd follows with the same configuration: Inside sits Intel’s Celeron N3450 mobile processor with four Atom cores (1.1–2.2 GHz), which should be sufficient for office tasks. In addition, there is 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of eMMC flash memory, on which the manufacturer Medion has pre-installed Windows 10 Home in S mode. The latter allows the installation of apps from the Windows store.
According to Medion, the stale-looking plastic housing should withstand falls from a height of one meter. The keyboard and trackpad are also water-resistant to 200 cubic centimeters. The TN display is 11.6 inches and shows 1366 × 768 pixels.
Two USB 3.2 Gen 1 (5 GBit / s) connections are available, including a Type-C port, one USB 2.0, an audio combo jack for connecting a headset and an HDMI output. The mass storage device can be expanded using a micro SD card reader. The Akoya E11202 transmits via Wi-Fi 5 (WLAN 802.11ac) and Bluetooth 4.2 and weighs just under 1.2 kg.
