Ravens at Steelers postponed again after corona outbreak

Baltimore / Munich – The eagerly anticipated division duel between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Baltimore Ravens has to be postponed again. The NFL set the kickoff for 2 a.m. Central European Time on the night from Tuesday to Wednesday. First the “ESPN” reporters Adam Schefter and Dianna Russini reported on the relocation.

Originally, the teams should have competed on Thursday night as the culmination of Thanksgiving Day. Due to a corona outbreak at the Ravens, however, the game was postponed to Sunday, 7.15 p.m. Central European time. So now the second step backwards followed.

Jackson among the corona cases

On Friday, another case of infection among the players was discovered during further tests of the Ravens. During the week, superstar quarterback Lamar Jackson, of all people, tested positive. According to Schefter, there were three more positive results from players and one from a supervisor.

NFL insider Ian Rapoport lists Patrick Ricard, Justin Madubuike and Morgan Cox as players who tested positive from the Thursday series in addition to Jackson. This quartet could not appear on Tuesday either.

According to information from Jeff Zrebiec of “The Athletic”, there are a total of 14 professionals on the team on the Covid 19 list, including three D-liners and two quarterbacks.

Jackson only small part of the outbreak

Over the past week, at least a dozen Ravens players have become infected with the virus, as have several assistant coaches and people around the team. At the beginning of the week, the two running backs Mark Ingram and JK Dobbins were placed on the team’s COVID reserve list.

In the past few days it had already become apparent that the appointment on Sunday that had been set in the meantime would be hard to keep. The NFL reached for the last straw, because they obviously want to prevent an 18th matchday in the regular season.

Harbaugh decision makes Sunday game impossible

Since the chains of infection at the Ravens bjslang can hardly be traced, head coach John Harbaugh decided to quarantine every player by Monday as a precautionary measure and to close the training area. The coach confirmed this to “ESPN”.

Since Jackson would not be available on Tuesday, his backup Robert Griffin III would have to step in. “RG3” has had a pass over nine yards and an interception so far this season.

He said on Thursday about the incident on “Twitter”: “I pray for my brother Lamar Jackson and every other infected player, coach and their families. Addressing the outbreak in the team is more important than football at the moment.”

Ravens’ game against cowboys must also be postponed

Schefter had previously quoted a source that the game on Sunday could “definitely not be played”. Due to the rescheduling of the game in Pittsburgh, the game of the Ravens against the Dallas Cowboys, which was scheduled as the Thursday Night Game of Week 13, had to be rescheduled. This is now to increase on Monday, December 7th, at 11 p.m. Central European time.

This makes it more and more likely that the NFL will have to resort to the emergency game day in week 18 for the first time in the special 2020 season, which was specially developed for such a scenario. Accordingly, the Steelers and Ravens would enjoy a bye week this week and the game scheduled for Sunday would have to be rescheduled in January.

The Steelers are affected by a corona outbreak within another team for the second time. As early as week 4, the originally scheduled game between the Steelers and the Tennessee Titans was postponed and after adjustments to the schedule by the NFL, it was made up three weeks later.

Is there a Week 18 after all?

However, since most of the teams have already completed their Bye Week and there is little flexibility left in the schedule, a game between the Steelers and the Ravens in week 18 seems most likely.

Originally we wanted to show this duel on ran.de on Sunday in a livestream. Further information will follow shortly.
