For the electric version, Renault has adapted the drive train of the Zoe to the dimensions of a small car. Both here and there, the generator set, which in the Twingo delivers 82 hp peak power and 160 Nm maximum torque, is combined with a single-stage automatic transmission. The liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery, which is tailored to the Twingo dimension, enables a range of 190 kilometers in the mix with a (net) capacity of 21.4 kWh. In pure city operation, the power supply should even be sufficient for up to 270 kilometers if you handle the power pedal gently and use all three available recuperation levels in a species-appropriate manner.

In the chapter on topping up electricity, Renault uses the already well-known flexible AC charging system called the Chameleon Charger, it is single-phase and three-phase, creates from two to 22 kW. The access (with type 2 plug) is behind the same fuel filler flap as on the combustion engine. The charging time for a full charge at the standard socket can be approx. 15 hours, with the fast charger, however, depending on the performance, one hour or two hours and ten minutes, from zero to 80 percent.
The handling of the electric version of the French, which measures barely more than 3.6 meters in length, does not pose an unsolvable puzzle. The cockpit layout has not been changed, only the displays have been adjusted. The ignition lock and the lever for the mechanical parking brake have also remained. The ergonomics are suitable for people of average size, even with the tilt-adjustable steering wheel.
While observing all Covid-related distance regulations, it was possible to run the Elektro-Twingo a little in Vienna, in the city and through the surrounding area. The first impression after around 50 kilometers, including exploring the possible (regulated) top speed of 135 km / h: The little Frenchman is lively – he needs 12.9 seconds for the 0-to-100 sprint, but from 0 to 50 it is, city-friendly, in 4.2 seconds. In addition, the rear-wheel drive four-seater appears even more stable and balanced as an electrician than its combustion counterpart.
This is also due to the positioning of the battery, in the car floor, under the first row. The engine sits in the rear (as in the gasoline engine). In addition there is fun and downright dancing agility. The steering angle of the front wheels is up to 45 degrees, the turning circle is 8.6 meters (combustion engine: 8.75 meters). Also, the existence of electricity is not too thick on the weight side. It weighs from 1,111 kilograms (petrol engines from 975 kilograms). There is no reduction in the trunk: from 219 and up to 980 liters of cargo fit behind the tailgate.
