Red Bull Salzburg has impressively shaken off the low in the ICE ice hockey league with five defeats in a row. Two days after their success against Fehervar, the Bulls outclassed previous table leaders Graz99ers 10-2 on Sunday. HCB Südtirol took advantage of the fall from Graz and took first place with a 4: 1 against VSV. The Vienna Capitals won the KAC 5: 4 after extra time.
Salzburg went into the first break with a 2-1 lead against Graz and made the decision in the beginning of the middle third with three goals within five minutes. In the highest victory since January 2019, nine different players entered the list of goalscorers. “Every row had a really good move towards the goal. You can say that everything went well today. We never let up in the back, and then the result turned out a bit high. But we like to take that with us,” said the only two-time Goal scorer John Peterka.
For the 99ers it was the highest defeat in 17 years, since a 9-0 defeat against the KAC on December 5, 2003. Bozen could storm into first place, although the Foxes played four games less than the Grazers. The South Tyroleans have been the outstanding team since the forced Corona break at the end of October, they have since won all of their six games in regular time. Villach is still penultimate, but has high hopes for the derby on Tuesday. The VSV hopes that the NHL striker Michael Raffl, who is on loan from the Philadelphia Flyers, will be available to his home club for the first time.
The Vienna Capitals celebrated their first victory in Klagenfurt in over a year and a half. The game really picked up speed in the 46th minute when the KAC converted a 1: 2 into a 3: 2 advantage with two hits within 13 seconds. The Viennese tied a minute later and found an answer to the Carinthians 4: 3 (54th) through Ty Loney (58th). In extra time, Colin Campbell’s second goal that evening scored the caps to win and fourth.
HC Innsbruck defeated the bottom group Black Wings 1: 5.
