His stature, around two meters tall, is said to have given Prowse his role when the first Star Wars film “Star Wars” came out in 1977. Darth Vader stands in the famous film series on the dark side of the force and is the opponent of the hero Luke Skywalker.
In Darth Vader’s fight scenes, Prowse had been replaced by fencer Bob Anderson, who had died in 2012 at the age of 89. Prowse was a three-time British weightlifting champion in the 1960s. In 1978 he trained Christopher Reeve for his part in “Superman”.
The life of the father of three and his star role as Darth Vader is told in the 2015 biopic “I Am Your Father”.
