Steinmeier does not see Germany as having reached its goal of equal opportunities

Federal President Steinmeier continues to see deficits in equal opportunities in Germany.

The starting conditions were already unequal in the daycare centers, said Steinmeier at an event organized by the weekly newspaper “Die Zeit”. The Federal Republic still has some catching up to do here. In this context, the Federal President referred to the special situation of children from families with a migration background. At the same time, Steinmeier advocated a rethinking of career choices. Equal opportunities are only created in a society if it is not seen as a misfortune that children from academic families are doing vocational training. Steinmeier said it was challenging enough today.

This message was broadcast on December 1st, 2020 on Deutschlandfunk.
