Do you want to enjoy the benefits of the new DualSense but don’t want to spend the money on a new console? We’ll tell you how to do it PS5-Controller am PC can use. This does not mean that you have exclusive next-gen titles at your disposal, but you can use some of the advantages of the new gamepad – albeit not to the full extent.
Use the PS5 controller on the PC – with a hook
You can use the DualSense with or without a cable. The latter requires that your computer has a Bluetooth module or an appropriate adapter. If you want to use the PS5 controller on the PC, you should keep in mind that you cannot use the adaptive triggers, for example. The haptic feedback is also deactivated in this state.
Nonetheless, the new gamepad lies ideally in the hand. Some games also display the correct PlayStation button prompts. If you have set up your rig setup in the living room, using the PS5 controller on the PC has pleasant advantages, despite a few missing features.
This is how you can use the DualSense with Steam
Steam is the most popular storefront and launcher for games on PC. You can use the controller on your PC when you’re running the application, and it’s a great choice if you’re using Steam’s TV-friendly “Big Picture Mode”. Then you just have to prepare the client for the DualSense:
- First, open the Steam client.
- Click on “Steam” in the upper left corner and select “Settings”.
- You will find further configurations under the “Controller” tab.
- Finally, select “General Controller Settings”.
A new window will open in which you can select configuration wizards for different gamepads. If you start the function, the selected PS5 controller connects to the PC and you can use it for the client as well as those games that you start via Steam.
Connect your gamepad via USB
You’ll need to use a USB-C to USB-A cable as the DualSense uses a Type C connector instead of a micro-USB like the DualShock 4. Simply connect the cable to both the controller and your PC, a Windows should automatically detect it. If your PC has a dedicated USB-C port, you can also use a USB-C to USB-C cable.
Use DualSense on the PC – via Bluetooth
The DualSense can also be connected to your computer via Bluetooth. First, you need to make sure that your PC or laptop has a built-in Bluetooth receiver. If not, there are a number of inexpensive Bluetooth USB dongles available for purchase.
First hold down the PS5 and Create buttons for three seconds until the light bar in the middle starts to flash. Then proceed as follows:
- Open the “Control Panel” of your computer.
- Under the tab “Hardware and Sound” you will now find the menu item “Devices and Printers”.
- Here you click on “Add devices”.
- On your DualShock 4 you now have to hold down the “Share” and “PlayStation” buttons until the LED on your gamepad lights up.
Although you can use the PS5 controller on the PC, this is more difficult in the context of the PlayStation 4. We’ll show you how it works anyway. You can also use the DualShock 4 on the PS5 vice versa.
