The choice of the possible actor in a biopic about Obama will come as a surprise to many.
It can hardly be avoided that in the foreseeable future a film will be made about the life of the 59-year-old ex-US President Barack Obama. If someone should have a say in the occupation, it is the person concerned.
In a long interview on “Complex’s 360 With Speedy Morman”, Obama now commented on this topic and actually does mention one name. So who does he trust to embody his own role? The answer will surprise many because it is not a professional actor but a musician: the Canadian rapper Drake.
At least Drake has stood in front of film cameras, apart from his video clips. These are mostly guest appearances in television series and in an “Ice Age” movie in which he even lent his voice to the character Ethan.
“I think Drake is an extremely talented brother. So when the time comes and he feels ready …” Obama said. He also noted that – what matters more – his family, especially his daughters Malia and Sasha, are absolutely delighted with this candidate.
Drake himself had already signaled his interest in this role in 2010. In an interview with Paper at the time, he said: “I hope someone will make a film about Obama’s life soon because I could play him. As soon as he appears on television, I pay close attention to his demeanor and voice. Everyone, me know how good I am at imitating intonations. ” Hopefully Drake’s interest in the role is still there ten years down the line.
In any case, he would not be the first actor in this role, because Obama was played earlier by Kingsley Ben-Adir in the series “The Comey Rule” and Parker Sawyers in the movie “Southside With You”.
