The rescue turned out to be difficult, because after the first visual contact the life raft was initially out of sight in strong winds of around 60 km / h and waves up to five meters high when it was dark. First video sequences from on board the “Yes We Cam!” showed those who were rescued after hours of anxiety, smiling happily in a survival suit. The race management of the Vendee Globe had diverted three other participants to the scene of the accident.

The French Kevin Escoffier was rescued in the Southern Ocean.
