The new coach Christian Gross has not yet decided on the goalkeeper question at the troubled Bundesliga club Schalke 04. All three available keepers are “fit and ready for action. Everyone wants to play, they make a positive impression,” said Gross, who will celebrate his debut at the Schalke Bank on Saturday at Hertha BSC (6.30pm).
During his first days at Schalke, he got a good impression of the team. “The very short winter break was good for the players,” said Gross, who is convinced that “the team will come back to win. Faith is crucial.”
Schalke have been waiting for a victory in the Bundesliga for 29 games. Tasmania Berlin’s record (31) is only two games missing.
Kilian Ludewig will not be available for the game at Hertha. According to Gross, the 20-year-old suffered a metatarsal fracture and was successfully operated on. Gross estimated the downtime to be two to two and a half months. The missions of Salif Sane and Omar Mascarell are also questionable.
