Lower Saxony Association of Cities wants help for dealers

The Lower Saxony Association of Cities is calling for help from the state to save retailers and restaurateurs. This was reported by NDR 1 Lower Saxony today. According to a city council spokesman, the corona requirements have a massive impact on city centers. In addition, the City Council is calling for an immediate program of 70 million euros from the state.

231 more corona cases in Hamburg

In Hamburg, too, the confirmed new corona infections remain at a comparatively high level: After 347 new cases reported yesterday and 104 a week ago, according to the authorities there are 231 today. It should be noted that the numbers are usually lower on Sundays and Mondays than on the other days of the week, as there is less testing and evaluation and fewer results are transmitted to the authorities. The seven-day incidence value rose to 112.9 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in the Hanseatic city and is thus still well above the limit value for risk areas of 50.0 to be reported.

The school preparation project runs a little differently in Corona times

The corona pandemic also has consequences for the preparation of preschool children for the “seriousness of life”, the start of school next summer. For example, visits to the children and their parents as part of the “Hippy” accompanying project are currently only taking place outside in Ratzeburg in Schleswig-Holstein (Duchy of Lauenburg). The goal remains unchanged: the little ones are introduced to the first class in a playful way. Among other things, the “Hippy” project will benefit from donations that the NDR campaign “Hand in Hand for Northern Germany” is collecting these days.

Scholz agrees to reimbursement for event cancellations

Federal Finance Minister Olaf Scholz (SPD) encourages artists and companies to plan events again for the second half of the coming year. At the same time, he promised reimbursement of the costs if they had to be canceled due to the corona. Scholz told the “Tagesspiegel” that he wanted to use this measure to encourage concert organizers to get started again. Otherwise the pandemic would eventually be over, but there would be no concerts. In addition, the whole machinery with the many solo freelancers and musicians get going again.

Hospitals are reaching their limits

In view of the increasing stress from corona patients, some hospitals in Germany are reaching their limits. In individual federal states such as Saxony, the number of intensive care patients is five times as high as in April, said the President of the German Hospital Association, Gerald Gass, of “Welt am Sonntag”. Clinics there were reaching their capacity limits or had already exceeded them. Accordingly, there are currently 40 percent more Covid 19 patients in intensive care units across Germany than in the spring. It is not the intensive care beds that are the limiting factor, but the appropriately qualified staff.

The following map gives an overview of the utilization of intensive care units throughout Germany. Further information can also be found on the linked page of the NDR Data team.
