Corona vaccination in the north: the first dates have been set
When will the vaccination centers start working in the Segeberg district and the rest of Schleswig-Holstein – and who will be vaccinated beforehand.
Segeberg district. “Something is currently changing in the schedule,” said Sabrina Müller, spokeswoman for the Segeberg district on Wednesday. “But as things stand at the moment, we will be with the in Kaltenkirchen on January 4th Corona vaccinations begin – but only on one vaccination line. “For the other vaccination centers in Segeberg district in Norderstedt and Wahlstedt there are still no exact dates for the start. “That just depends on the availability of the vaccine,” says Müller.
Schleswig-Holstein’s Health Minister Heiner Garg made his vaccination strategy public on Wednesday. Preparations for the vaccination start on December 27th were in full swing, Garg said. “Even if we still have tough months ahead of us: The start of the vaccinations is the chance for a new beginning, for a better year 2021, during which we will all gradually recapture our lives together in freedom.”
Corona vaccinations start with mobile vaccination teams
Schleswig-Holstein expects 48,000 vaccination doses in December. The first 10,000 cans should arrive centrally on December 26th, another 14,000 cans should be delivered on December 28th and another 24,000 on December 30th.
As early as December 27th, up to ten mobile vaccination teams will swarm to the care facilities in the state – primarily gerontopsychiatric facilities in high-incidence areas – in order to vaccinate residents who wish to do so. The number of mobile teams will be gradually increased to up to 15 teams by the beginning of January. Clinic staff with a very high risk of exposure, especially in intensive care units and in the emergency room, are also due to receive the vaccine on December 27th.
From one dates for the corona vaccination will be given
In Kaltenkirchen and 14 other vaccination centers (one per district / urban district), operations will then start on January 4th with one vaccination line each. The vaccination centers will initially be open daily from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. After three weeks, if a second vaccination has to be given in addition to the first vaccination, the opening times can be extended. The vaccination centers in Bad Oldesloe, Lübeck and Prisdorf each start with two vaccination lines.
From December 29th, appointments for the vaccination in the vaccination centers should be possible via a central website or by calling 116 117. Members of group 1 of the recommendations of the Standing Vaccination Commission (StiKo) are initially entitled to vaccinate in the vaccination centers. These include, in particular, nurses in inpatient care facilities and outpatient nursing services, as well as employees of emergency services and people older than 80 years. Group 1 also includes the staff of individual practices in which highly vulnerable patient groups are treated.
People over 80 who are cared for at home and cannot go to vaccination centers will be vaccinated at a later date. Due to the special storage and transport requirements of the BioNTech / Pfizer vaccine, it is currently not possible to vaccinate your doctor or at home.
The most important questions about the start of the corona vaccination at a glance:
How long does a vaccination take in a vaccination center?
The actual vaccination process will only take about five minutes. Including a medical briefing, during which questions can also be asked, and a follow-up period, the whole process will take about 45 minutes.
How many vaccinations can the vaccination centers have?
The country is preparing that about 300,000 vaccinations per month are possible via the vaccination centers. This depends on the amount of vaccine available. In addition, there are vaccinations that can be carried out in hospitals and via mobile vaccination teams in care facilities and similar facilities. A prerequisite is always the availability of the appropriate quantities of vaccine. According to the current status of planning, the vaccinations should be transferred to regular operations, i.e. the general practitioners’ practices, after six months at the latest. This could happen earlier, depending on vaccine development and vaccine requirements, such as freezing.
Which vaccine is vaccinated in Schleswig-Holstein?
The first vaccine to be approved will be BioNTech / Pfizer. Other companies have already applied for approval so that other vaccines will also be used in the future as soon as they are available. Whether other vaccines are also used in vaccination centers or by general practitioners depends largely on the requirements of the vaccine.
Can I get vaccinated in a vaccination center that is not in my district or in my urban district?
Yes. It will also be possible for citizens of Schleswig-Holstein to get vaccinated in Hamburg. Hamburgers can get vaccinated in Schleswig-Holstein.
Corona crisis: where intensive care beds are still available
What percentage of Schleswig-Holstein residents have to get vaccinated to protect the community?
Two aspects must be considered here: individual protection and community protection. In principle, everyone who wants to be vaccinated against Covid-19 should be able to get a vaccination (individual protection). Mathematical models show that only with an immunity of around 70 percent in the population are the transmissions of the coronavirus so limited that this pandemic passes (community protection).
However, it is currently not possible to predict the extent to which immunity will prevent or at least reduce transmission. In this respect, great importance is attached to individual protection, i.e. the protection of the vaccinated person from Covid 19 disease or a severe course of the disease. When using a pandemic vaccine, it is also crucial which group of people will benefit most from the vaccination. These are those who are at an increased risk of a severe course of the disease and those who are exposed to the highest risk of infection through contact with Covid-19 sufferers.
Who can I contact if I have any questions about vaccination?
A central vaccination hotline of the Federal Ministry of Health can be dialed on 116 117.
