Berlin – The hotel dispute with the Chancellor – the capital is stepping up again. Private overnight stays are also allowed in Berlin at Christmas. That was confirmed yesterday by Vice Prime Minister Klaus Lederer (46, left).

“Other federal states do the same,” said Lederer after the Senate meeting. “We don’t count something like family visits during this time as tourist excursions.” It would be absurd to force people into cramped living conditions. “That would be exactly the opposite of what happened in the pandemic situation. It helps to equalize the potential for contagion. ”

In Germany, hotels are currently only allowed to accommodate business travelers – this regulation is to be dropped in Berlin and other federal states for the festival. The governing mayor Michael Müller (55, SPD) announced last Thursday. But he restricted that a travel waiver was the best.

Nevertheless, there was a rebuke from Chancellor Angela Merkel (66, CDU): It is not possible to check whether only guests stay in the hotels who actually visit relatives in the region.

This is exactly what the industry association Dehoga criticizes. Chef Thomas Lengfelder (61) on BILD: “Every overnight stay is wonderful. But we need a very clear directive from the Senate on how we should control this. ”Hotel employees are not police officers who check the truthfulness of the information on the registration form.
“We would be delighted if we could welcome private travelers for Christmas,” says a five-star hotel in Mitte. “But the implementation still seems completely unclear to us.”
