A 25-year-old driver from the Wels-Land district had a fatal accident in a traffic accident on the Westautobahn (A1) in the Gmunden district late on Monday afternoon. According to the Upper Austrian police, the man’s car skidded around 5 p.m. on the road towards Salzburg near Laakirchen for an unexplained cause, hit a guardrail on the right edge of the lane and was then run over by a truck coming up.
The truck was driven by a 49-year-old from the Lower Austrian district of Baden. A subsequent 68-year-old driver from the Tyrolean district of Kufstein also collided with the car of the 25-year-old unlucky driver. Despite resuscitation measures that were quickly initiated, he still died at the accident site. He had been trapped under the truck and had to be freed by the fire department. The 68-year-old driver of the following car was slightly injured in the collision and was taken to the Salzkammergut Klinikum Vöcklabruck.
The A1 was closed for about two hours in the area of the accident site. The police asks accident witnesses to report to the Seewalchen motorway police station on 059133/4173.
