  • Basel wins against Lucerne in the 14th round of the Super League away 2-1.
  • The Central Swiss miss the compensation in the final phase.
  • Basel reduced the gap to Leader YB to 5 points in the table.

The game in the Super League between Lucerne and Basel was on a knife edge in the second half. But FCB goalie Heinz Lindner was able to prove his class under pressure. In the 77th minute, the Austrian miraculously prevented Ibrahima Ndiaye from equalizing to 2: 2 after a header from very close range.

Pascal Schürpf had previously brought back Lucerne’s hopes after a mess in the Basel penalty area. This goal gave the FCL a lot of momentum, but it wasn’t enough for another goal because of Lindner and despite the pressure phase in the final minutes. Also because the VAR did not intervene after a scene in the 78th minute in the Basel penalty area after a supposed handball by Julian von Moos – a controversial decision.

FCB spectacle in half time 1

Before the break, the team of coach Ciriaco Sforza had mostly controlled the game. In contrast to the opponent, Basel came up with efficiency. Lucerne created several chances and had more possession, but the home team could not score a goal in the first half. Basel, on the other hand, scored 2 dream goals:

  • 23. Minute: After an apparently cleared corner, Von Moos makes the ball hot again with a failed shot. Arthur Cabral reacts quickly and steers the ball into the goal with his heel.
  • 36. Minute: After a counter-attack, Pajtim Kasami lets the rushed FCL striker Dejan Sorgic get out and successfully pulls away from a distance. The ball fits exactly into the top corner. A great goal by the 28-year-old.

Then Lucerne came up through Schürpf, but Fabio Celestini’s team was not enough for one point.

So it goes on

The two teams are now on their winter break. Basel will play their next game at home against Zurich on January 23rd, and Lucerne will play the next day in the Swissporarena against Lugano.
