The variant of the coronavirus, which appeared in Great Britain, has also been detected in Germany for the first time. The mutated variant B.1.1.7 was found on Thursday in a woman who entered Baden-Württemberg from Great Britain on December 20.
A spokesman for the ministry said in Stuttgart: “The person in question is currently visiting relatives in the Freudenstadt district in Baden-Württemberg and on Sunday, December 20, 2020, traveled by plane from Great Britain via Frankfurt Airport to Germany. A rapid test of all passengers for SARS-CoV-2 was carried out at the airport upon entry, which was positive for the person. “
The woman was picked up by relatives in Frankfurt. She has been in domestic isolation since then, according to the ministry. Three close contacts are also in quarantine. The woman has only mild symptoms.
Evidence that it is virus variant B.1.1.7. act, was done by the National Consiliar Laboratory for Coronaviruses at the Charité Berlin, it said.
