The handball players of the Fivers Margareten scored their third point in Group A of the European League on Tuesday. The Viennese drew against Ademar Leon at home 33:33 (19:20) and thus improved by one position to fourth in the table of six. Two weeks ago, the Fivers landed their premiere success in this European Cup with a home 37:32 against Toulouse, last week they could not compete against Metalurg Skopje due to corona.
The Fivers didn’t get off to a good start with a 4-0 draw, but fought their way up and stayed in touch with the fifth in the Spanish league for the rest of the season, especially after the break. A few minutes before the end, the hosts, who had started without captain Markus Kolar, were in the lead at 33:32, but after losing the ball in the game without a goalkeeper they had to accept the equalizer.
“We had victory in our hands, that hurts a bit,” said Lukas Hutecek, Fivers top scorer with seven goals. “But we showed what we can do. We played a good game over 60 minutes.” Coach Peter Eckl was not disappointed with the missed win. “That is a won point. We had the opponent before the defeat. I feel great satisfaction and I am proud of the team.” Next Tuesday it’s the “second leg”, the Fivers guest at Ademar Leon.
