Stuttgart (dpa) – Baden-Württemberg’s Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann has campaigned for understanding for the tough lockdown from Wednesday. “Unfortunately, we have no choice but to quickly go into the hard lockdown,” said the Green politician on Sunday to the German press agency in Stuttgart after the switch with the other Prime Minister and Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU). “The growing number of new infections, the many deaths that we have to mourn every day and the increasing burden on hospitals and intensive care units force us to do so.”

According to the decision of the federal and state governments, the lockdown will apply from December 16 to January 10. The retail trade has to close with the exception of shops for daily needs. Schoolchildren and daycare children should stay at home for three and a half weeks at the latest from Wednesday across Germany – whenever possible. Exceptions and emergency care are possible. Kretschmann wants to inform about the lockdown in a press conference at 3:30 p.m. The Green politician appealed to the people in the Southwest: “Please all follow the measures and limit your contacts as much as possible.”
