On Tuesday evening, VfB Stuttgart ended up parting with 1. FC Union Berlin with a 2-2 draw. The Swabians were able to score a point with two late goals from Joker Sasa Kalajdzic. When the striker scored twice in the closing stages, the match was over for defender Konstantinos Mavropanos for a few minutes.
VfB head coach Pellegrino Matarazzo commented on the fact that the Greek was replaced after 53 minutes at the press conference after the game against the Iron. He gave the all-clear regarding a possible injury to Mavropanos:
“He wasn’t hurt, but of course he also had a yellow card. And then I wanted to bring in Pascal Stenzel, a player who is simply a different player in the build-up of the game. He has a very good right foot. It was more of a decision, To give Pascal the chance to show himself. And I also believe that Pascal did a good job. ”
Next up is the Stuttgart against VfL Wolfsburg. The game between the newcomers and Lower Saxony concludes the 13th and last Bundesliga matchday before Christmas. Kick-off is on Sunday at 6 p.m. in the Volkswagen Arena. Both Mavropanos and Stenzel should now have a chance of a place in the starting line-up at the weekend.
