The municipal election committee officially confirmed the result of the Mayor election last Sunday. However, appeals and lawsuits against the result can still arise.

Stuttgart – The local election committee, chaired by the district returning officer and First Mayor Fabian Mayer (CDU), officially determined the final result of the Stuttgart OB election on Tuesday. Accordingly, the CDU applicant and newly elected town hall chief Frank Nopper received 42.3 percent of the vote. Marian Schreier, an individual applicant with SPD party membership, landed in second place with 36.9 percent. In third place, the candidate of the SÖS citizens’ alliance, Hannes Rockenbauch, achieved 17.8 percent.

Appeals and lawsuits are possible against the result

The six individual applicants, who also ran for the new election on November 29, received the following percentages: Michael Ballweg (1.2 percent), Ralph Schertlen (0.6), Issam Abdul-Karim (0.4), Friedhild Miller (0.3), Marco Völker (0.2) and Werner Ressdorf (0.1). With the publication of the election results in the official gazette on Thursday, the one-week period for objections to the election starts. Objections must be submitted to the Stuttgart Regional Council. In addition, there is the possibility of suing the result before the administrative court within a further four weeks. The planned assumption of office of the new mayor depends on this: Should there be any complaints, the date scheduled for January 7th would be delayed. For a transitional period, Mayor Mayer would then be in charge of official business.
