On December 18, after the hard lockdown, the exhibition in the painting gallery of the Academy of Fine Arts in the Theater Museum will be accessible again. From then on, Anthonis van Dyck’s early self-portrait can also be seen in a special presentation. The show provides insights into the results of an extensive restoration and research project, in which new insights into the genesis of the painting from around 1614 could be gained.

“Complex. The earliest self-portrait by Anthony van Dyck ”can be seen until May 2nd. In addition, the current exhibition of the Kupferstichkabinett on Rudolf Jettmar at the interim location will be extended until March 14th. In the spring, they rely on a cooperation with the host theater museum: In the video installation “After the End and Before the Beginning”, toxic dreams install two stations in the gallery from February 10 to May 11.

The trio of curators “Raqs Media Collective” from Delhi was engaged for the major opening exhibition after the move back to Schillerplatz in autumn 2021. Jeebesh Bagchi, Monica Narula and Shuddhabrata Sengupta will take an external look at the Academy’s collections and relate them to current, contemporary art, as the announcement says.

Meanwhile, there are no innovations in the management question of the picture gallery. After Julia M. Nauhaus, who left the house at the end of June, withdrew, Rector Johan F. Hartle had announced an “extensive internal audit”. As it was said when asked on Friday, a new posting of the post is planned for the beginning of 2021.
