Shortly before the turn of the year, “lateral thinkers” wanted to demonstrate again in Berlin. It is unlikely to come of this. The planned demonstration has been banned.
The lateral thinking demonstration against government restrictions in the Corona crisis planned for December 30 in Berlin will be banned. In view of the pandemic situation, a gathering would put public safety and order at risk, the Berlin police announced on Wednesday evening. The critics of the Corona policy had registered 22,500 participants for the rally on Straße des 17. Juni.
The demonstration was originally planned for New Year’s Eve under the motto “Welcome 2021 – the year of freedom and peace”. Because of the general ban on gatherings, the organizers had brought the demonstration forward by one day.
Public security includes the protection of central legal interests such as life, health, freedom, honor and property of the individual as well as the integrity of the legal system and state institutions and events, the police said.
