Rapid advanced 3-1 in Hartberg to Salzburg

Thanks to optimal efficiency in the first half, Rapid scored three points in the Bundesliga on Saturday. The Viennese celebrated a 3-1 victory at TSV Hartberg and are only one point behind defending champion Red Bull Salzburg. Thus, Grün-Weiß gained confidence again for the decisive Europa League game against Molde on Thursday. With the WAC, another EL starter with opportunities for advancement at WSG Tirol lost 4-1.

Rapid took advantage of the opportunities that arose in the game. Kelvin Arase (2nd) and Ercan Kara (35th) used the first two chances to lead the green-whites 2-0 after the break.

Hartberg had to contest the second half with ten men after Bakary Nimaga’s yellow-red (44th), but made the game exciting again thanks to a controversial goal from Thomas Rotter (66th). The ball had jumped to the hand of the defender. Arase with a stab (76th) made everything clear for the long stretches of the sovereign Viennese. For Rapid it was the first Bundesliga victory after two draws and one defeat.

The dress rehearsal of the WAC for the Europa League “final” against Feyenoord went in the pants in contrast to Rapid. In a messed up game, the Carinthians lost to WSG Tirol 1: 4 (0: 2) and are on the spot in the table. With four points behind WSG (6th) they were seventh before the final game of LASK against Ried.

David Gugganig (26th) and Kelvin Yeboah (30th) punished the weak WAC performance in the first half with a 2-0 deficit, but Dejan Joveljic (66th) only managed to score one goal due to an increase in performance after the break. Tobias Anselm closed the sack in the finish (77th), and Renny Smith (94th) scored in stoppage time. In the third Bundesliga duel with the Tyroleans, the WAC lost the field for the second time in a draw.

The WAC had to travel by bus from Munich to Innsbruck. The planned charter flight could not land in Innsbruck due to the wind conditions.
