If the purchase of an Apple Watch is pending, the customer has the choice – between different display sizes, the choice of material and different colors: The current flagship model is now also available in blue and red in the aluminum version. The shape is different: a rectangular screen with rounded edges determines the design language of the Apple Watch, although the Series 4 was able to set new accents. With other devices, Apple was less squeamish – for example, the new iPhones deviate from the design of the last few years and are partly reminiscent of the iPhone 5. The Apple Watch could follow this reorientation and thus fit more optically into the current portfolio.
Redesign could be a long time coming
The designer Wilson Nicklaus has designed a concept based on the stainless steel version of the Apple Watch that shows the watch with flat edges – and thus borrows from the current iPhone. The screen does not take on any other shape in the renderings – a move away from rectangular displays is pretty unlikely anyway. The graphics give a good impression of the path Apple could actually take – although it will probably not come to that anytime soon: According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, a visually revised Apple Watch may not be expected until 2022 or 2023.
