Sausage recall: Salmonella detected in salami
ALDI SUISSE AG has launched a recall for the product “Chorizo Iberico de Cebo”. According to the Swiss company, salmonella has been detected in the sausage. These bacteria can lead to diarrhea and abdominal pain, among other things.
The Swiss Federal Food Safety and Veterinary Office (FSVO) indicates on its website that ALDI SUISSE AG has been recalled. According to the company, salmonella was detected in the “Chorizo Iberico de Cebo” salami as part of internal controls. “A health hazard cannot be ruled out,” says the media information.
Do not consume sausage
The product “Chorizo Iberico de Cebo” of the brand: Iberico specialties, in a 70 gram package, with the lot number: 21713996 and the best before or use-by date: 22.12.2020 is affected by the recall.
The sausage was sold by ALDI SUISSE AG, a Swiss company that belongs to the Aldi Süd group of companies. According to the information, the product has since been withdrawn from sale.
The Federal Food Safety and Veterinary Office (FSVO) recommends not to consume and dispose of the product.
Fever and indigestion
Salmonella are bacteria (zoonotic pathogens) whose metabolic products can trigger an acute intestinal inflammation, salmonellosis, in humans, explains the Federal Office for Consumer Protection and Food Safety (BVL) on its website.
In humans, fever and indigestion such as vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal pain may develop six to 72 hours after consumption. Symptoms usually go away on their own after several days.
But especially babies, toddlers, senior citizens and people with a weakened immune system can develop more severe disease processes.
