BerlinTo support homeless people during the winter months of the corona pandemic, the Berlin Senate is increasing its aid capacities. In addition to the around one thousand emergency overnight places for cold weather, more accommodation and places to stay for cold days would be created, the Senate Department for Labor and Social Affairs said on Wednesday. Guests and employees of the facilities should therefore undergo rapid corona tests.
According to this, the homeless can now also use the refrigeration aid facilities during the day because many common places of residence for the homeless are no longer accessible due to the corona pandemic. A facility for women and families only is available. The accommodation offers are initially planned until April 30, 2021.
Guests of the cold help should be tested daily
From December 15th, 450 warm meals and packed lunches will be distributed daily; the offer is financed until March. A restaurant in Berlin-Mitte is also to be opened for up to 150 guests during the day. In order to comply with distance and hygiene rules, the operation is regulated in different time windows with fixed visitor numbers. According to the Senate, further projects are planned and suitable facilities are being examined accordingly.
Part of the strategy is also an average of 46,500 rapid corona tests from November to March. The aim is to test the cold aid guests daily and the employees once a week.
