FDA expert Peter Marks said the culprit may be the chemical polyethylene glycol. It is part of the vaccines from both Biontech / Pfizer and Moderna. The immunizations with the Biontech / Pfizer vaccine have been running since Monday, and the Moderna vaccine should also be used from the beginning of next week. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) yesterday issued emergency approval for the Moderna vaccine. This is the first approval of the vaccine worldwide.
Over 260,000 new infections
Polyethylene glycol – also called macrogol – is widely used in pharmacy and cosmetics as an active ingredient carrier.
According to a Reuters count, more than 260,000 new infections have been reported in the USA. At least 261,887 people tested positive for the coronavirus yesterday, bringing the total number of infections to 17.42 million. Another 2,947 people died according to the census. Overall, the number of deaths in the US rose to 314,049. The country has 328 million inhabitants.
