“I would like to thank David for the months we spent together, the time on and off the pitch, and wish him all the best for the future,” wrote the German number 1 in a statement on social media. Zverev also thanked Ferrer’s family for “giving me the opportunity to spend valuable weeks with David during this difficult time.” He also said he had “great respect for the way David played and trained tennis.”
Ferrer had at the Spanish tennis portal puntadobreak.com previously stressed that “absolutely nothing” had happened between him and Zverev, “everything is fine. I’m very grateful to him for giving me the opportunity to go through the season with him. We had a good cooperation during these months, everything was perfect, ”said the former number 3 in the world rankings.
Cooperation only started in summer
Last summer, Zverev, number 7 in the ATP ranking, announced after a two-week test phase that he would henceforth be working permanently with David Ferrer. “We get along incredibly. We are now a team, ”he said on August 1st after noisily parting ways with his ex-coach Ivan Lendl the year before. After separating from Ferrer, the US Open finalist will probably be trained by his father again for the upcoming tasks. Zverev’s first appearance in the new season is at the ATP Cup from February 1st to 5th. After that, the Australian Open will start on February 8th.
