LfV examines the relationship between Islamists and clans

Berlin (dpa / bb) –  The  Berlin Office for the Protection of the Constitution is investigating whether there are connections between members of the Islamist scene and criminal members of large families of Arab origin. A corresponding project had been launched, said constitutional chief Michael Fischer on Wednesday in the responsible committee of the House of Representatives. “We don’t have a result yet. But it will be in the not too distant future.” When asked whether the Office for the Protection of the Constitution knew anything about relations between clans and the Lebanese Shiite militia Hezbollah, Fischer said there had been no information so far.

It is known that members of clans transfer assets from criminal activities abroad, particularly to Turkey and Lebanon, and invest them there. Many clans have family ties in the countries. In some reports it is speculated that there are also contacts to the local and German Islamist scene.
